Working families are getting priced out of their own neighborhood, and Carson City's new housing law was not written for a district like ours. In 2025 the state passed the Nevada Housing Access and Attainability Act (AB540), but it aims at households earning up to 150 percent of area median income, and most families here earn far less. With more than six in ten of us renting, and renter protections vetoed, the help is aimed above our block. Katie will fight to make that housing money actually reach District 6 renters and working families, speed up homes people here can afford, and put real tenant protections back on the table.
Bills keep going up but paychecks stay flat. For too long, the municipal boundaries between North Las Vegas and Las Vegas have created gaps in opportunity. Katie will establish a Sister City framework for joint planning, shared resources, and coordinated investment across city lines, because the challenges we face do not stop at a border. Working with the Governor's Office of Economic Development and using Opportunity Zones, she will bring good-paying jobs into the district and support the small businesses that keep families working close to home. The VCAP Act puts community-driven, data-informed planning at the center of decisions on housing, jobs, and opportunity.
Nevada's children have fallen behind, ranking near the bottom of the country in proficiency, and District 6 families feel it. Katie will work to establish the STEM and Family Values Act to prepare our children for the future, giving them the skills to succeed, the support of their families, and the foundation to build strong, successful lives. We invest in our children's future by connecting education, family, and opportunity, so every student has a real path to succeed in life, not just to graduate.
Nobody should go broke getting sick. More than one in five people in District 6 has no health coverage, and a single medical bill can wipe out a family's savings. Katie treats healthcare for what it is here, a core part of the cost of living, and will work to expand access to affordable care so a trip to the doctor does not put a family in the red.
Every family deserves clean, safe neighborhoods. When residents here talk about safety, they talk about homelessness and the drugs they see on their own blocks, not crime statistics. Katie treats this as a quality-of-life issue, working on real solutions for homelessness and addiction so families feel proud and secure where they live.
From rent to groceries to the doctor's office, the cost of living keeps climbing. Katie measures every decision by one test: can a working family here actually afford to live, work, and raise their kids.
